Department Administration – Beach Services
Position Title Beach Services Lifeguard (Seasonal)
Salary Range $10.00 – $12.00 per hour

Description Under regular supervision, performs responsible life-saving work in the Beach Services Division. Work involves using independent judgment in dealing with dangerous or unusual situations, exercising safety practices and procedures.
Experience High school and minimum age 16, good physical condition; possession of all members of both upper and lower extremities; must have vision correctable to 20/20; good character and reputation; or any equivalent combination of acceptable training and experience. Must have a valid driver’s license. Must possess or be able to obtain training as specified by the United States Lifesaving Association (USLA). Successfully complete certification in one-person adult, two-person adult, child and infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), including obstructed airway training. Will receive no less than 21 hours of Red Cross First Aid Training.
Physical Requirements Must be physically able to effectively operate water rescue equipment, etc. Must be able to exert up to one hundred pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to fifty pounds of force frequently, and/or up to twenty pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of ten to one hundred pounds. Must be able to swim 500 meters in 10 minutes or less and run one-half mile in 3 minutes and 15 seconds.
Note Season end bonus is available to those that qualify. City provides all required training at no cost to lifeguards. All applicants will need to have a physical done by a physician and provide the City with the results. Each applicant will be drug tested by the City.

NEW Bonuses for the 2012 season!!

The $500.00 bonus for all rookie guards who attend and complete the 7 day lifeguard academy has been re-instated.

The $250.00 bonus for all returning guards has been re-instated.

A new squad leader position has been created.

There will be a pay increase of .50/hr. up to $12.50/hr. for all returning guards. 

There will be a $100.00 bonus for guards working Memorial Day weekend (Including Memorial Day).

There will be a $100.00 bonus for guards working Labor Day weekend (Including Labor Day).

**BONUSES WILL NOT BE PAID UNLESS INDIVIDUALS WORK A MINIMUM OF 60 DAYS AND ONE OF THE BONUS WEEKENDS.**
